• Fraud Frenzy in Lobatse: Scam artists are targeting unsuspecting buyers with fake Facebook sales.

• Staggering Losses: At least five cases have seen victims swindled out of over P100,000.

• Slick Disappearances: Scammers vanish post-payment by deleting or rebranding their Facebook accounts.

• Personal Data at Risk: Victims report money disappearing from bank accounts after sharing sensitive details.

• Police Warning: Authorities urge buyers to verify sellers and stick to trusted sources.

In a startling development, Facebook sale scams are wreaking havoc in the Lobatse policing area, with numerous residents falling prey to cunning fraudsters. Lobatse Police Station Commander, Superintendent Boitshepo Kaisara, revealed that in five separate incidents, victims have collectively lost more than P100,000 to these elaborate schemes.

According to Superintendent Kaisara, the scammers lure buyers by advertising irresistible and high-value goods on Facebook. Posing as legitimate sellers, they gain the trust of unsuspecting customers with seemingly helpful interactions and convincing business fronts. However, once payment is made, the fraudsters disappear without a trace—leaving behind nothing but a void and mounting financial loss.

The tactics employed are as ruthless as they are deceptive. After securing payments, these scammers often delete the Facebook accounts they used to advertise their products or reappear under new aliases, making it nearly impossible for victims to trace the perpetrators or recover their money. Alarmingly, some victims have also reported that their bank accounts have been compromised after sharing personal details with these fraudulent operators.

Superintendent Kaisara has issued a stark warning to the public: exercise extreme caution when engaging in online transactions. He advises potential buyers to verify sellers thoroughly and to rely on trusted, well-known shops rather than falling for flashy online ads. “We urge everyone to be vigilant—if something seems too good to be true, it probably is,” he stated.

As the digital marketplace continues to evolve, the battle against online scams intensifies. Authorities in Lobatse are ramping up efforts to track down these fraudsters and safeguard the community. In the meantime, residents are urged to report any suspicious activity immediately and to protect their personal information at all costs.
