Lobatse Police Station Commander, Superintendent Boitshepo Kaisara, revealed that in five separate incidents, victims have collectively lost more than P100,000 to these elaborate schemes.
According to Superintendent Kaisara, the scammers lure buyers by advertising irresistible and high-value goods on Facebook. Posing as legitimate sellers, they gain the trust of unsuspecting customers with seemingly helpful interactions and convincing business fronts. After securing payments, these scammers often delete the Facebook accounts they used to advertise their products or reappear under new aliases, making it nearly impossible for victims to trace the perpetrators or recover their money. Alarmingly, some victims have also reported that their bank accounts have been compromised after sharing personal details with these fraudulent operators.
Superintendent Kaisara has issued a stark warning to the public: exercise extreme caution when engaging in online transactions.
